Joshua Nichols, CIM, CEA

Managing Partner | Wealth Consultant

The life behind the money

I take a deeply personal approach to wealth, grounded in long, genuine relationships and a focus on the life behind the money. I specialize in guiding people through life’s transitions, helping them clarify their values, long-term goals, and the deeper purpose of their wealth, whether that is independence, family time, legacy, or stability during uncertain times.

More than a portfolio

What sets my work apart is a commitment to my clients’ overall well-being, not just their portfolios. A financial plan cannot be separated from a career change, a family shift, or a health challenge, so I make room for all of it and help clients navigate change with clarity and confidence. Before entering wealth management, I worked across several industries, which is why I connect easily with each client’s story.

Outside the office, you will usually find me cheering on my daughters on the golf course or on the ice with my family.

Discipline over impulse

I am a portfolio manager with a discipline rooted in human behaviour and a commitment to long-term growth. Over fifteen years in investment strategy, I have learned that markets reward patience and punish impulse. I pair market expertise with behavioural insight to keep clients focused when emotion says otherwise.

A global background

My path has taken me through five countries on four continents, and I speak five languages, which shapes how I read global trade, geopolitics, and risk. I hold an Honours degree in economics from the University of Wales, as well as the Chartered Investment Manager and Personal Financial Planning designations. I began in banking in England and Africa, was recognized among Toronto’s top advisors at one of the Big Five banks, and moved into private wealth to work to a true fiduciary standard. I have also taught wealth management at Seneca College.

Away from the markets, you will find me with family, hiking, camping, at a chessboard, or immersed in a work of history.

People first, portfolios second

Wealth management works best as a relationship, not a transaction. Though I know everyone says that. What I actually mean is that a plan only holds up if it’s built around what someone wants their money to do for them. For one client that’s retiring on their own terms. For another it’s making sure their kids are taken care of, or just not lying awake worrying about markets. I build around whichever of those actually matters to the person in front of me, and I’d rather over-explain something than leave a client nodding along without really understanding it.

A background built on rigor

I worked as a portfolio manager before this role, managing portfolios through real market cycles rather than just studying them. The formal training came alongside that, and it’s sharpened how I think about valuation, risk, and long-term planning. It also gave me a genuine respect for the compliance side of this work, which isn’t the most exciting part of the job but matters just as much as the investment decisions.

Outside the office, I’m usually in the woodshop working on a build, training for my next marathon, wrenching on cars, travelling or spending time with my wife and our two kids.

The team behind the partners

In a relationship measured in decades, who you work with matters as much as what they manage.
